What happened to my right to free speech? Why can't I say what's on my mind anymore? Why do I have to tiptoe around issues of race, religion and gender? Why do I have to go to extremes to watch what I say? This whole notion of political correctness started out with good intentions, but now it's over the top. Watchdogs go after politicians, entertainers, news broadcasters, talk show hosts, ANYONE who makes a slip of the tongue or speaks out of turn. And they go after them with earnest. They demand retractions and apologies, boycott advertisers, and often coerce employers to censure, or fine, or fire those who offend. Remember Don Imus? Sure, he was wrong. What he said was insensitive and insulting. But racist? I think not. A lot of this PC crap is simply ridiculous. I can't call terrorists "terrorists". They're "enemy combatants". I have to refer to those who enter our country illegally as "undocumented workers". I can't even say "Merry Christmas" anymore without the risk of offending someone. And there are plenty of other examples of extreme PC.
And then there are those who make a living pointing out the politically incorrect faults of others. The Reverend Al Sharpton is a self-proclaimed civil rights leader who regularly goes after those who (he says) disparage minorities. What right does he have to force his way onto the stage and serve as the sole arbiter of right and wrong? He's nothing more than a race baiter and anti-Semitic racist who feigns being offended to further his own personal and political ambitions. Stop putting up with this PC crap. Say what you want. Use your good sense and judgment to determine what is right and wrong. And stop being offended (or acting like you're offended) every time someone says something a little off color (pun intended).
